Give it a photo of a memory

Get back that moment as a 3D point cloud you can move around in. Your photo is processed on this device and never uploaded.

Places work best. You can also drop or paste an image anywhere.

Creating your point cloud

  1. Reading photoStays on this device
  2. Estimating depthAI model running in your browser
  3. Placing points in 3DEvery pixel becomes a point in space
  4. RenderingCompare with the original before you keep it

How it works

A photo is flat. A memory isn't. Memory4.life estimates how far away everything in your photo is, then rebuilds the moment as millions of points you can move around in.

1

Upload

Choose, drop or paste a photo. It's read straight into your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

2

Estimate depth

Depth Anything V2 runs on your device (WebGPU when available, WASM otherwise) and predicts a distance for every pixel.

3

Place points

Depth edges are snapped to image edges, layers are spread apart, and each pixel becomes a colored point inside a 3D volume. The sky dissolves into dust.

4

Explore & decide

Rotate, zoom and pan. Compare with the original in split view, export a PNG, and choose to keep it or delete it.

What to expect

An interpretation, not a reconstruction. A single photo doesn't contain what's behind things, so hidden surfaces are filled in and depth is a best guess. It works best on places: streets, rooms, landscapes.
  • Reflections and glass
  • Sky and clouds
  • Hair and fine branches
  • Overlapping subjects
Under the hood. Points are rendered with a bufferless WebGL2 renderer: positions are computed on the GPU from the point's index, so it scales from 1 million to 1 billion points. Adaptive quality keeps motion smooth on any device.

About

Give it a photo of a memory. Get back that moment as a 3D point cloud: a place you can revisit from a new angle.

Principles

Transparent transformation

The source photo always stays one click away, beside the result, so every change makes sense.

Meaningful controls

A few plain controls for depth and density instead of raw technical parameters.

Privacy-aware defaults

Examples avoid people, processing happens on your device and is explained step by step, and deleting is one click.

Expectation management

Depth estimation is an interpretation of a memory, not a perfect reconstruction, and the interface says so.

Project

Memory4.life is the Point Cloud Memory Mapper by Raj Kaul. Read the case study at madebyraj.com or see the code on GitHub. Experimental extras (text to points, Dream semantic maps and sleep cycles) are under Settings.
